Museum
of Alaska Transportation and Industry (MATI) opened
Thursday, May 1, 2008. Summer hours will again be from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.
Breeden Barn Project
With the successful move of the Breeden Barn to MATI's
property last fall, we're now in the next
phase--restoration.
MATI
received a grant from the Rasmuson Foundation to cover the
cost of materials needed in this phase. Many, many
volunteers are now working on the multiple tasks necessary
to ready this new addition to MATI for the public access.
You can help with this restoration effort in two ways. If
you'd like to help work on the restoration, just call MATI
(376-1211). All volunteers are welcome. You can also make
a direct donation to the Breeden Barn Project and/or
purchase raffle tickets in this year's raffle.
Please
make checks payable to MATI and designate your direct
contribution to the Breeden Barn Project. Mail to:

Raffle tickets are on sale in the gift shop and will be
available in various events throughout the summer.
2008 Raffle
This
year MATI will again have multiple raffle
prizes. Currently, we have three pedal bikes and
another beautiful quilt made by the North Star
Quilters.
Raffle drawing is scheduled for the last day of
the Alaska State Fair. The first ticket drawn
gets first pick of the available prizes; we'll
continue drawing tickets until all the prizes
are awarded. You do not need to be present to
win. Tickets: $2.00 available at the MATI gift
shop.
"Name the Cow"
Contest
A
"Name the Cow" contest will be going on all
summer. This will be fun for young and old
alike. Entry forms for the "Name the Cow"
contest are available in the museum's gift shop.
The cow to be named is an exact replica of a
Holstein cow and can be seen at MATI and will
also make several public appearances throughout
the summer. Once the cow is officially named,
and the barn structure is ready, the cow will
have a permanent residence in the milking parlor
for the restored barn.
"The
Mud Hen"
We still have copies of the limited edition, signed print
entitled "The Mud Hen" - the
first airplane in Anchorage around 1922. We produced
the print as a fund raiser for the museum.

The Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry teamed up with local Alaskan Artist James
Havens to celebrate Alaska's historical aviation
past by issuing their first annual limited edition print
